Volunteer Requirements & Responsibilities

Volunteers are required to:

Be at least 18 years of age.
Have a High School Diploma or GED
Have reliable, independent transportation
Complete Friends of Literacy Volunteer Orientation and Training.

Volunteer responsibilities:

Commit to volunteering for approximately three hours per week for at least six months.
Be dependable and on time; follow through on commitments.
Help those you work with become independent learners.
Keep a record of your volunteer hours.

Friends also hopes that volunteers will:

Become knowledgeable about the organization and stay current with what Friends of Literacy is doing so you can be an advocate for supporting the organization and adult learners.
Join as members: membership does not require a specific dollar donation, but joining at the $25 level will cover most of the cost of your training time and materials.
Promote a positive image of the organization and represent the spirit of Friends of Literacy toward adult learners – “Supporting Second Chances.”
