Program Results

 

  • 2002/2003 school year Knox County served 1,532 students - 445 students were literacy level (originally testing at or below a sixth grade level).
  • 2003/2004 school year Knox County served 1,570 students – over 500 students were literacy level (originally testing at or below a sixth grade level).
  • 2004/2005 school year Knox County served 1,260 students – again well over 500 were literacy level (originally testing at or below a sixth grade level).

GED Results

Over 90% of the students who enroll in our adult education classes list getting GED as a goal.

  • 2000/2001: NO student who had started at the literacy level finished with a GED.
  • 2001/2002: 1 student who had started at the literacy level finished with a GED.
  • 2002/2003: 5 students who had started at the literacy level finished with a GED.
  • 2003/2004: 10 students who had started at the literacy level finished with a GED.
  • 2 004/2005: 22 students who had started at the literacy level finished with a GED.

In the 2004-2005 school year 74.3% of the 288 GEDs achieved in the program were students beginning in the literacy levels.

How Long Does It Take?

  • It takes an average of 3 months for a student who enters at a seventh or eighth grade level to complete the program.
  • It take an average of six to nine months for a student who enters at the fifth or sixth grade level to complete the program.
  • Students who enter at the lowest grade levels can take as long as two or three years to learn to read.
