Volunteer, Attend Events, and Donate!

How Can I Help?

Volunteer: Become a tutor, participate in our holiday gift wrapping at area bookstores, work in our office, work with children in the Family Literacy classes, work a booth at a communicty event, and help at special events. Get more information now.

Attend events: We have several annual events each year including the East TN Writers Hall of Fame, Looks for Literacy, and others. Please check the home page for updates.

Donate: Become a friend of literacy, or donate an item from our wish list.

Friends of Literacy is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization; contributions are tax-deductible, as allowed by law.

Finally – Help us twice by telling a friend!

Together we will:

  • Help adults receive a quality education
  • Provide workforce-ready adults to the business community
  • Ensure adults are given the opportunity to become better parents, workers and citizens

  1. After my second year of college, I spent five years as an English teacher in Russia and Ukraine. Now I’m back in the US continuing my studies at UT. I am particularly interested in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, although I would also be interested in learning to teach adults to read or helping with other skills.

    We have multiple opportunities for volunteers to tutor adults learning to read all the way through working to earn their GED, as well as English Language Learners. Please continue on to the volunteer page on our website and fill out the application. The link will send your application directly to me and I will put you on the update list for volunteer training class notification. The next class will be in late October.
